Recorded notes

I find it very difficult to remember some idea that comes to my mind when I am on the road or doing something else unrelated to work. Usually they seem wonderful at the time they occurred to me thus forgetting it create some stress... Several years ago I solved this problem by getting a small voice recorder that I carry most of the time. With it I can make notes safely even when I am driving. I upgraded my tape recorder to the more flexible digital type  a couple of years ago. They are wonderful because I can later listen to the note and criticize the idea, selecting only the ones worth pursuing to transfer into my agenda or whiteboard. Cell phones and MP3 players can be used also, but I prefer to have a separate device with a battery that will last many weeks. What is your strategy to take notes?
